LG Stop Watching. Start Seeing.

This banner popped up above an HTC Vive review on gizmodo. I chose this ad because it's just so cool, I spent a couple minutes just messing with it and then quite a few more exploring the product site it linked out to. As you mouse up to the top of the page and first see the banner the TV screen is liquid like a reflection pool and shows a few ripples bouncing around. As you move your cursor over it ripples follow as if you were dragging your finger through a pool, and it was extremely realistic, even a bit relaxing. I may be a bit biased to underwater scenes, but I've certainly never seen anything like this—it's just so much more stylish than any other banner or sidebar ad I've seen.
The TV pictured in this banner is the flagship LG model, that they even hired an external luxury-centric design firm to draw up. I think they're targeting well-off tech innovators, because they've got the placement right on a page that primarily attracts tech enthusiasts and it's a review of an emerging technology (Vive VR) that's still priced quite high. I believe the objective here was to position LG as a true premium brand, because I think they've always been pit against Samsung and been considered the lesser product if even just slightly, and this TV is a design statement. The ad also links to a unique product website filled with beautiful content that showcases an assortment of LG's flagship products from appliances to TVs. I think all of this is meant to position LG as an elegant luxury option.
